Description

A Garrafeira Port is a truly unique type o Port only produced by Niepoort and now accredited by the Port Wine Institute. Only released in a handful of years (only 12 vintages since 1931), the wine made with the very best grapes of a single harvest is first aged in pipas, then transferred to glass demijohn and then decanted and bottled. There is no rule about the time spent in cask and demijohn. It is one of the most fascinating Port, lying in between a Vintage & a Colheita. Dirk Niepoort calls them teh DRC of Port.

Tasting Notes

1931 is the inaugural Vintage. Aged till 1938 in barrel and then in glass demijohn till 1979. Sweet and concentrated with subtle notes of strawberries, honey, malt, with hints of mint and sea breeze. Outstanding and unique Port wine.
