Two of the wines chosen for the blend have aged in the canteiro Barbeito warehouses for over 50 years. They were pressed using a horizontal screw press and probably fermented for more days than would be normal for a Malvasia, as they were somewhat dry when we tasted them. Because they were in that state, they helped to balance and offset the high sugar concentration of the remaining three wines, which were very old and came from the Pereira da Silva family. Of those three old wines, one had been stored in a demijohn for 40 years and lent an enormous elegance to what was intended to be a classic blend. In March 2023, both have been bottled.
Tasting Notes
Intense and sophisticated bouquet, spicy notes of nutmeg, clove, light ginger, beeswax and caramel, hints of passion fruit and dried black figs. The palate is fresh and minty, with a firm and precise acidity that leads to a well-polished finish with tropical flavours.
