Description
Vertente is a highly approachable wine of great appeal and complexity, combining fruitiness and concentration of Douro wines with freshness typical of Niepoort's winemaking philosophy. Vertente, which means hillside, represents an overview of the Douro Valley, is made up of a bit of all the Douro terroirs that Niepoort cultivates. The majority of the grapes originate from old vineyards aged between 50 and 80 years, with a traditional blend of several grape varieties.
Tasting Notes
2016 vintage serves a great hit of freshness, and offers an expressive bouquet of black pepper and red fruits of the forest notes, with nuances of plums and cherries too. The wood is subtle, providing some hints of smokiness, combined with mineral wet stone. The palate is tightly structured, with a nice backbone, and features a lovely balance, with enjoyable acidity leading to a long finish.
