Description

A wine of exceptional quality made only from the Verdelho grape variety, aged in cask under the traditional canteiro system for a minimum of 20 years and bottled only when it begins to display the degree of depth and complex charachteristic of full maturity. Vintage Madeira aka Garrafeira or Frasqueira are the epitome or excellence and the glory of Madeira.

Tasting Notes

As the oldest madeira from Pereira D'Oliveira and the oldest Madeira still in cask, this majestic Verdelho from 1850, with 71g of residual sugar, is particularly noteworthy. An intoxicating aroma of marmalade, roasted espresso, beef consomme, melted wax, fig and ocean spray, is the prelude to a titillating palate of tangerine, toffee, lime concentrate and tea, with a seam of crisp and gorgeous acidity, onto an utterly memorable finish. This 1850 has everything a great madeira should have: concentration, complexity, power, with truly stunning freshness and finesse. This is a grand old wine from the 19th century that will age forever.
